From maintaining good health to reducing stress levels, there are numerous benefits of a comfortable night's sleep. Part of achieving that comfort involves sleeping in the right environment where the heating and cooling system is maintaining optimum temperatures. Here are a few tips for setting your heating and cooling system and ensuring a good night of restful sleep.

3 HVAC Tips for a Restful Sleep

1. Turn Down the Heat

A cooler setting makes for ideal sleeping conditions. Always be sure to have the room as dark as possible and keep the temperature on the thermostat between 60 and 67 degrees. Any temperature above or below this range can cause your sleep to be disturbed as you attempt to get warmer or cooler as necessary—and interrupted sleep is not restful sleep.

2. Use a Programmable Thermostat

This way, you can set it and forget about it; the heating and cooling system will take care of everything to maintain the right temperature.

3. Clean Out the Air Filters

Every month or so, clean out the air filters in your heating and cooling system. Air filters are responsible for pumping the clean air essential to health, comfort, and sleep. Congestion, stuffy nasal passages, and wheezing are all common impediments to sleep, and they can all be caused by unclean air. Simply remove the filter, vacuum it off with a hose attachment, and replace it; if there is a significant buildup, consider switching it out entirely with a new filter.
