If your prescription glasses are crooked, feel uncomfortable, or cause you headaches, they probably need an adjustment. Fortunately, there are several simple things you can do to keep them from slipping off your nose or hurting your eyes. Here are a few tips on how to make them fit your face perfectly.

How to Adjust Your Prescription Glasses

1. Bend the Hinges & Joints

glassesIf your glasses are crooked, the frames are most likely misaligned. Locate which side sits too high and bend the hinge downward. Experiment with different angles until you reach the appropriate balance. If they dig into the skin behind your ears, bend the joints slightly outward. Keep in mind that hingeless glasses will likely require professional adjustments.

2. Apply Heat to the Frames

Sometimes it helps to apply heat to the frames before adjusting them. Run the temple arms under hot water to make them more pliable. This is especially helpful for adjusting glasses that tend to slip off the nose. Heating and molding the frames will also make them fit more snugly behind your ears. Make sure to only run them under hot water for a few seconds. If you don’t want to risk damaging them, visit your eye care professional.

3. Reposition the Nose Pads

If your glasses leave marks on the bridge of your nose, you probably need to adjust the pads. Hold them by the bridge and move the nose pads inwards to relieve some of the pressure. If they sit too high on your face, push the nose pads outward to make space and help them sit in a more natural position.
