Dents and dings are an inevitability when you own a car. No matter how cautious you are, there are instances when damages are beyond your control, and you’ll need dent repairs. Even though you can’t avoid them altogether, there are still a few ways to minimize dents.

How to Avoid Dents on Your Car

1. Park Smart

Ill-placed shopping carts and freewheeling car doors make parking lots prime areas for accumulating dings and scratches on your car. Avoid these problems by choosing to park a few meters away from the entrance where there are fewer cars to deal with. Be sure to park within the lines and avoid inconveniencing others by hogging two spots.

2. Avoid Tight Spaces

Avoid trying to fit your car into narrow parking spots. Doing so increases the likelihood of getting dents by bumping into other cars or vice versa. But if you have no other parking options, choose a spot beside a luxury car. Owners of pricey vehicles tend to be more conscientious about getting car scratches and dents since they can cost a hefty sum to repair.

3. Keep It Covered

Nature can be brutal to your vehicle, especially with hail storms and other weather conditions that can leave extensive damages in their wake. Invest in a good cover and leave the vehicle parked in a sheltered area. By covering your car, you reduce the chance of the paintwork being marred. Check to see whether you have coverage for damages caused by harsh weather. If your vehicle does get damaged, make sure you can file a claim for dent repairs.

4. Drive Carefully

Road debris, such as stones, dirt, and falling branches, can cause dents and scratches on your vehicle. Whenever possible, drive slowly if you’re passing a construction site or road works to avoid kicking up debris that can cause you to need dent repairs.

5. Hand Wash Your Car

Automatic car dent repair washes do clean your car, but they can also cause dents or scratches. Forego the convenience and affordability of conveyor washes by opting for hand washing instead. Before leaving the shop, inspect your vehicle for any dents to ensure you can file a claim right away.
