A Helpful Guide to Golf Divot Etiquette, Manhattan, New York

Whether you’re a novice or seasoned golf player, you must understand and follow golf divot etiquette to provide every player with the opportunity to practice on a clean course. With the effort to train as well as the expense of golf clubs and driving range fees, every player deserves a chance at a smooth green. Here are some rules of golf divot etiquette to follow.

Golf Divot Etiquette for Every Player

Place a Ball Mark on Damaged Greens

Damage on the greens is called a ball mark. In this instance, insert your ball mark tool at a 45-degree angle. Enter it into the side of the divot and push vertically. Raise the divot past the surface and then flatten it down with your putter, or another golf club in your set. This creates a more even fairway while in the middle of your game.

Use Sand or Dirt

Fairway divots are a common occurrence, and it’s essential to know how to fill them so they don’t negatively impact the following players’ round. Use the sand or dirt provided by the course in your golf cart to fill in areas that the loose grass can’t; this will ensure the surface is even.

Set Grass Back Into Place With Your Golf Shoes

Throughout the course of your golf game, you will inevitably damage a green with one or more of your shots. If you create a divot, the best thing to do is to replace the removed turf and tamp it down with your golf shoes. This will prevent an uneven fairway for golfers behind you. This will also compress the dirt and grass enough so it doesn’t easily become loose again when struck by a golf club.

Every golfer deserves a clean fairway when they’re playing. Divot repair and disrespect for the course cause costs to skyrocket due to repair expenses.
