Invisalign® is an effective and subtle way to straighten your teeth, and it’s essential to care for them to ensure they work properly and stay in top condition. Talk to your dentist and consider the tips in this guide to keep your Invisalign® retainers free of damage.

How Do You Care for Your Invisalign® Retainers?

1. Clean the Retainers Carefully

Clean your retainer daily to remove hidden debris or surface stains that can damage your teeth. Use a soft toothbrush to carefully apply a dentist-approved toothpaste to the retainers on the inside and outside. Once you rinse it, soak the aligners in retainer or denture cleaning solution for about 15 minutes. Soaking it every day can remove extra buildup and bacteria.

2. Care for Your Teeth

InvisalignPlaque and other particles can get stuck under the retainers and cause bacterial growth. Brushing twice per day, flossing, and rinsing with mouthwash will reduce the risk of oral issues. Carry a container of floss with you for a quick clean on the go.

3. Remove Them While Eating

Whether you’re eating a full meal or trying a free sample at the grocery store, always take out your retainers to eat. Even if you’re eating soft or bland food, any substance can leave stains and sediment. This is especially important when eating hard and crunchy foods, as these can cause your retainers to crack.

4. See Your Dentist

Once you start wearing Invisalign®, you should regularly see your dentist so they can monitor your teeth’s progress. During these appointments, the dentist can thoroughly clean your teeth, spot any dental issues, and make recommendations to improve your overall oral hygiene.
