You may already realize that grease is bad for your drains. When it cools, it hardens and adheres to pipe walls. It also tends to collect food scraps and other debris, which can result in stubborn clogs and the need for professional drain cleaning. To help you avoid this problem, here are some alternative ways to dispose of cooking grease.

How to Get Rid of Cooking Grease Without Clogs or Drain Cleaning

1. Collect in Disposable Container

If you have a glass or plastic disposable container handy, wait a few minutes for the grease to cool and pour it into the container. Old margarine or sour cream tubs are ideal for the purpose, as are empty peanut butter jars. Let the oil cool completely, close the container, and dispose of it in the trash.

2. Use Paper Towels

Drain cleaning in Kailua-Kona, HIIf you don't have a disposable container, you can sometimes soak up the oil with paper towels. This is only practical if you have just an ounce or two of grease. Use two or three sheets to absorb the oil, then wrap the soggy bundle in another sheet before disposing of it all. Remember to let the oil cool to a safe temperature before trying this cleanup method.

3. Freeze Oil

If you have no disposable towels or containers, you can instead collect the grease in a Tupperware™ or similar container. Place this in the freezer for an hour or two until the contents harden. Then you can scrape the hardened grease out directly into the trash. Wash the container in hot, soapy water, and you're done.
