Now that the winter has arrived, it’s time to take your snowmobile out on the first ride of the season. Before you start up the engine, there are some measures you must take to ensure your winter sport vehicle functions at peak performance. Below are some of the steps to include on your maintenance checklist.

How to Prepare Your Snowmobile for Winter

1. Conduct an Inspection

Examine the vehicle to ensure there are no loose or worn components. This includes an inspection of the spark plugs, drive belt, and clutches, which are the snowmobile parts most prone to wear. Use a grease gun to lubricate the suspension and steering points.

2. Check the Fluids

Chaincase oil also breaks down during the off-season and should be changed. Refer to the owner’s manual of your vehicle for recommended fuel and lube types.

3. Clean the Snowmobile

To protect the lifespan of your snowmobile, conduct a thorough cleaning after pulling it out of storage. Use a hose and water to wash off all lingering debris and dirt. For a deeper clean, take it to a local car wash. An upholstery cleaner can be used for the seats, and applying wax will protect the hood from scratches.
