During the off-season, keeping up with your batting technique will help you stay in shape and hone your skills. Batting cages are a great way to do that, but you want to maximize your session with the right sports equipment and methods. Below are a few do’s and don’ts to get you started.

Do:

Purchase a bat.

Bats come in different weights and materials such as wood, metal, or composite. Having your own sports equipment means you won’t be held back by a bat that is not suited for your strength and style. Try out a variety of bats to find one that suits your swing, and bring it with you to the cages.

Focus on the ball.

Don’t:

Lose focus.

Keep your mind and eye on the ball, and be conscious of where you place each part of your body. While high-quality sports equipment will help improve your game, nothing beats improving your mental skills at bat.

Neglect technique.

While a strong swing over the head of the pitcher is nice, you also want to work on your weaknesses. Take time to practice bunting, following through, feet placement, and various drills that will help you decrease weak spots.
