Though damage to your roof can sometimes be unavoidable, there are actually many ways in which you can protect your roofing, and ensure it will be in good condition for years to come.

Walter St Clair Roofing, Cincinnati’s roof repair experts, say these things are the worst ways to wear out your roof:

  • Mounting a satellite dish: While you can use under eave brackets, which will swing out and around your gutters, mounting a satellite directly to your roof with bolts can cause unnecessary holes, which will eventually lead to roof leaks. When installing your dish, try to find another location.
  • Letting leaves and snow pile up on your roof: While clearing your roof during fall and winter may seem like a big hassle, avoiding this chore adds extra weight, and can eventually lead to your roof sagging or even in extreme cases falling through into your home. Simply climbing up with a ladder and using a rake or shovel should do the job.
  • Hanging Christmas lights to your shingles: Just like with mounting a satellite, hammering nails or driving screws into your roof makes small openings for rain, snow, and other debris to work their way inside. Rather than the roof, wind your lights around your front porch or shrubbery to give your property a festive look without having to regret it later.
