Your bathroom remodeling plans may include designing an entirely new room, or perhaps you plan to share your current bath space with your kids. Either way, it’s important to include kid-friendly changes so your young ones can use the room easily and safely. Focus on features and installations that accommodate growing children, instead of those that work well for toddlers only.

Kid-Friendly Tips for Your Next Remodeling Project

1. Remove Towel Bars & Install Hooks

Using hooks instead of towel bars saves you from having to readjust towels folded and hung incorrectly by your kids. Hooks make it easy for children to hang up their towels as well as keeping a more organized space.

2.  Add Storage

Avoid having a bathroom cluttered with children’s toiletries and bathing toys by including plenty of storage space. Install a new vanity with lots of drawers, or install shelves that children can reach. In particular, open shelving helps children quickly find what they need, so they don’t waste time digging around, making the bathroom messy.

3. Revamp the Tub Space

Add a grab bar to your shower for extra safety. Larger shampoo niches also allow for less bottle clutter around the tub edges and keeps items that you don't want smaller children to get into, in a safe location.

4. Invest in Durable, Textured Flooring

Prevent slip and fall accidents with textured, durable flooring. Look for tiles with a coefficient of friction (COF) greater than 60 to help prevent falls. Also, since textured surfaces are harder to clean, opt for larger tiles instead. Using a narrower width for the grout line between the tile will also aid in easier cleaning and maintenance to the floor and wall tile.

5. Install a Trough Sink

Use a trough sink or other sizable option to reduce the amount of water that ends up on counters and floors. Large bathroom sinks also make it easy for children to share vanity space. Use step stools to help your child reach the sink easily.
