Why Children Should Be Taught About Giving, Creve Coeur, Missouri

Whether it’s finding a gift for a family member or collecting items for a local charity, the holidays present the perfect opportunity to talk about giving with your kids. Lucky Lane Nursery, a preschool located in the Greater St. Louis, MO, area is one of the biggest proponents of this concept. With a firm belief in the value of teaching little ones about giving, they encourage students to find ways to give back to the community and organize seasonal activities that allow them to do just that.

Why Should You Discuss Giving With Your Little Ones?

preschoolGiving can be a difficult concept for children to learn, especially when their first inclination is to claim everything as their own. Start with a few activities to help them to understand the benefit of giving to others rather than keeping things for themselves. Bake a batch of cookies for the neighbors or gather a group of friends to make Christmas cards for residents at a local nursing home. Allow your little ones to choose what they want to do so it becomes a more personal project.

How This Local Preschool Offers Opportunities for Giving

Lucky Lane Nursery organizes two giving-related activities each year for their students. The first is a canned food drive through the St. Louis Foodbank. Each classroom is asked to collect a total of 100 cans during the first half of November. Those that reach their goal are awarded with an ice cream party. This provides the perfect opportunity to not only teach giving, but also to practice counting the number of cans that are donated.

The second activity that this local preschool organizes is Adopt-a-Family through St. Louis County. Two families are selected from the program and their various needs are shared with the students. Each child then chooses an item to donate and brings it into class later on in the month. These are then gift wrapped and delivered to the families in mid-December. This creates an opening to teach little ones about being grateful for what they already have.

Lucky Lane Nursery has been providing quality childhood education throughout the Greater St. Louis area for over 65 years. They are committed to developing children’s minds and organize a number of stimulating educational programs that foster curiosity. Their learning center is recognized for its safe, fun environment and has room to house dedicated spaces for toddlers, preschool-aged children, and pre-kindergarten groups.
