From snorkeling with sea turtles to hiking mountain trails, there’s so much to do when you visit the island of Oahu. But perhaps some of the most exciting tourist attractions of all are the international surf competitions. On your next island getaway, don’t miss the chance to see globally ranked athletes gliding through sky-high barrel waves in the following surf competitions.

Which Surf Contests Should You Attend This Winter?

1. Billabong® Pipeline Masters

From Dec. 8 through Dec. 20, 2018 at Ehukai Beach Park, Billabong hosts the legendary Pipeline Masters competition. As part of the Vans® Triple Crown and World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour, competitors take on the Banzai Pipeline in one of the biggest tourist attractions of the year. Since the waves break so close to shore at the site, spectators enjoy a prime view of the surfers zigzagging through gorgeous, 30-foot barrels.

2. The Eddie

tourist attractionNamed after the famous, fearless, big-wave catching surfer Eddie Aikau, The Eddie typically takes place from Dec. 1 to Feb. 20 in Waimea Bay each year. Since the contest tries to schedule during swells up to 40 feet, eager spectators should check out news reports to see when it’s on. Because of the competition’s long history of honoring the local surfer, the community bands together in support of this occasion.

3. Volcom® Pipe Pro 2019

From Jan. 29 through Feb. 10, 2019, 34 of the world’s top professionals will take on waves at the Volcom Pipe Pro. Since the event marks the start of the new season, the audience can enjoy slightly smaller crowds coupled with the same top-notch talent. Sponsored by Red Bull TV®, the tourist attraction takes place at the Banzai Pipeline.

Since beaches and nearby parking tend to be jam-packed during these competitions, visitors should enlist transportation service from AM Tours Hawaii in Honolulu, HI. They offer the prompt, reliable private charters tourists need to beat the crowds.
