After you have your large furniture items packed up and moved out of your home, you might be wondering how to pack away the more delicate wall fixtures, such as mirrors. Although it can seem difficult to transport large, heavy, fragile items, having the right packing supplies and knowing the tricks of moving the mirror will make the process much easier.

How to Pack Mirrors for a Move

1. Tape an “X” Across the Glass

In the unlikely event that you break your mirror in transit, it makes sense to have a backup plan to make the glass easier to remove and clean up. To keep glass fragments in place if the mirror breaks, use painter’s tape to tape a large “X” across the front of the mirror. In addition to keeping fragments from filling the box, this tape will also keep the glass from damaging the frame if the mirror fractures.

2. Buy an Interlocking Art or Mirror Box

To make moving your mirror easier, pick up an interlocking art or mirror box. These special containers have telescoping sections that interlock together, making it easy to enclose any size of mirror with a layer of strong cardboard.

3. Label the Box on All Sides

After the mirror is taped and packed away into a strong box, label the cardboard with the proper packing supplies. Picking up a few bright red fragile stickers can help you to indicate the need for special care, and labeling the box as a mirror on all sides will make it easier for movers to relocate the piece carefully.
