How to Properly Care for Your Custom Dentures, Cold Spring, Kentucky

Custom dentures are a versatile solution for tooth loss, offering full models capable of replacing an entire row of top or bottom teeth as well as partial versions. If cared for properly, they can last from five to eight years. Correct cleaning and storage are also important for your oral health, as they combat potentially harmful bacteria. Find out how to maintain your dentures

How to Clean & Store Custom Dentures

During the day, clean your dentures after eating by running water over them. At night, remove and scrub them with a soft-bristle brush after soaking. This eliminates food, debris, bacteria, and plaque buildup. Gently scrub away any remaining denture adhesive as well if you use it.

What Products to Use for Denture Care

Don’t soak dentures in hot water, as this can cause warping. If you use a store-bought solution, rinse the devices with water before re-inserting them. Failing to do so can cause issues from nausea to burns, as these cleaning fluids often contain chemicals.

Avoid abrasive tools and only use soft-bristle brushes for cleaning. Be aware that whitening toothpaste will not significantly change the color of false teeth, so it’s best to skip these products. This is especially true if they contain a bleaching agent, which can weaken dentures.
