An Easy Guide to Common Water Heater Models , Union, Ohio

There’s nothing like a hot cup of tea or a steamy shower to warm you up on a cold winter day. Unfortunately, if your water heater is on the fritz, you may be in for an unpleasant surprise. If you’re in need of a new water heater installation, you must choose a model that suits your lifestyle and household. Here’s a brief explanation of the three most common types.

3 Types of Water Heaters

1. Storage Water Heating Systems

Storage water heaters have a large storage component where they keep a reserve of water available for immediate use. Water heater installation is typically less expensive with these models compared to others; however, they use more energy to keep the tank constantly hot. Keep in mind not all are the same; it’s important to choose one with the capacity to meet your household’s needs. Total storage capacity does not equal the amount of hot water available at one time.

2. Tankless Water Heaters

waterheaterinstallationTankless heaters are ideal for homes without space to accommodate a tank as they require no storage and are wall-mounted. These systems only heat water when it’s needed, using a gas burner or electric system, depending on the model. Although they don’t store water, they don’t require you to wait for the water to heat up either, as some models do. Keep in mind that these are not ideal for heavy use as only a limited amount of hot water is available at any given time.

3. Heat Pump Water Heater

Heat pumps use electricity to take energy away from one source and direct it to another, similar to a refrigerator or air conditioner but in reverse. You can purchase the system as a standalone unit with a built-in tank or retrofit an add-on unit to your existing tank. Because they don’t generate heat directly, they can be two or three times as energy efficient as a conventional heater. However, these are not ideal for climates with extreme temperatures.
