3 Things to Do If Your Blood Pressure Is Too Low, Dothan, Alabama

Have you ever felt faint or dizzy and can’t think of a reason why? For many people, a sudden drop in blood pressure can cause these symptoms. Many factors affect your blood pressure, and it’s important to identify causes and seek treatment from a cardiologist if it becomes a constant issue. Here are three steps you should take if your blood pressure dips.

What Should You Do if You Have Low Blood Pressure?

1. Hydrate

Every aspect of your body requires a healthy amount of water to function optimally. Ideally, you should be drinking eight 8-ounce glasses each day, and more if you do strenuous activities. When you’re dehydrated, the amount of blood in your circulatory system decreases and your organs don’t receive enough. Staying hydrated keeps your blood volume at a healthy level, supporting a level blood pressure.

2. Drink Caffeine

Caffeine can positively impact the cardiovascular system by increasing your heart rate and boosting blood flow. If you’re taking any medications or dealing with existing health complications, speak with your primary care physician first, as caffeine may interfere and cause adverse health effects.

3. Speak With Your Physician

Uncharacteristically low blood pressure is concerning, and you need to speak with your physician or cardiologist right away, especially if you’ve ever lost consciousness. The physician will do tests to investigate the cause and may prescribe medication or advise dietary changes to avoid future drops.
