5 Travel Tips for Contact Lens Wearers, Rochester, New York

With the holidays almost here, many people will be traveling and taking their contact lenses with them. While you’re traveling, your eyes can dry out, and because you’re breaking your routine, you may forget to maintain your lenses properly. Here are a few tips to keep your lenses in good shape and your eyes healthy while you’re traveling.

Contact Lens Tips for Travelers

1. Buy a Small Contact Solution Bottle

Instead of packing a large bottle of contact solution, invest in a travel-size contact solution pack designed for traveling. Since the TSA limits liquids like contact solution to 3.4 ounces, these packs will allow you to get your contact solution pack through security.

2. Don’t Wear Contacts on Long Flights

Since contact lenses are partially composed of water, the low humidity on airplanes could dry out your lenses, leading to discomfort. Avoid wearing contact lenses on long domestic or international flights, and instead, wear eyeglasses.

3. Follow Your Regular Cleaning and Storage Routine

contact lensesWhile you’re traveling, it can be easy to fall asleep with your contact lenses on or forget to clean them, which is why it’s important to keep to your regular contact lens routine as much as possible. Set an alarm on your phone, computer, or tablet to remind you to remove, clean, and store your lenses.

4. Bring Extra Lenses

You never know when a contact will tear or fall out, so make sure to pack extra lenses.

5. Pack Your Eyeglasses

In addition to bringing along spare contact lenses, you should pack your eyeglasses in case you develop an eye infection or need to give your eyes a break from your lenses.
