4 Key Differences Between Face-Lifts & Botox®, Orange, Connecticut

The aging process can cause the skin to sag and wrinkle. While this is a natural part of growing older, some individuals will turn to cosmetic procedures to help them feel their best. Face-lifts and Botox® are two common treatments that can help patients achieve a more youthful appearance. If you are considering some cosmetic changes, it’s crucial to understand how these procedures differ.

What Is the Difference Between Face-Lifts & Botox?

Purpose

cosmetic proceduresBotox is an injection that affects the facial muscles, smoothing out lines and wrinkles. Patients will generally choose this treatment for minor adjustments around the brows, eyes, forehead, and mouth. However, patients who want more drastic changes will opt for face-lifts. This treatment can adjust cheek volume, reduce skin laxity, accentuate the jaw, and smooth out the neck.

Procedure

These cosmetic procedures are both completed in a plastic surgeon’s office. The doctor can place Botox injections in about 15 minutes. Since face-lifts deliver more dramatic results, the procedure is more invasive. The surgeon places patients under anesthesia for the treatment, and they complete the procedure through a series of incisions, fat redistribution, and sculpting. They will then close the incisions.

Recovery

While the results of Botox may take up to a week to appear, you can generally return to your normal activities after your injections. The plastic surgeon might recommend taking anti-inflammatory medications to control the swelling. Face-lifts may require a recovery period of at least two weeks, as the swelling can be more severe. With either procedure, the doctor will outline side effects and recovery instructions.

Results

It’s essential to remember that the results of Botox are temporary, usually lasting several months. Patients will need to return for additional treatments to retain their results. However, face-lift results can last up to 10 years or more. This type of cosmetic procedure creates more visible results for a longer period, so it can be the best option for many patients.
