Every household needs a dependable source of clean drinking water. Technological advancements in the water treatment industry make it even quicker and easier to remove harmful minerals, chemicals, and microbes from the source. Here are a few new and emerging developments in water treatment systems.

3 Innovative Water Treatment Solutions

water treatmentPulsed UV Technology

Pulsed UV technology is still in its developing stages. It uses a Xenon lamp to effectively kill microbes in a fraction of the typical sterilization time. Intense pulses of energy disinfect the water without using excessive power; overall, pulsed UV technology is efficient, low-maintenance, and safe. Certain cities have already begun using this system, which will soon become available in homes.

Advanced Oxidation Technology

Advanced oxidation uses an ambient temperature treatment process to oxidize the water source and remove contaminants such as chlorine, organic compounds, pesticides, and toxic waste materials. This system produces fewer harmful byproducts than other water treatment options. At present, advanced oxidation is too expensive for widespread residential use but will hopefully soon be more affordable.

Membrane Filtration Technology

Membrane filtration technology consists of low-pressure and high pressure systems. Low-pressure membranes purify water using about 10 to 30 psi. High-pressure membranes, such as nanofiltration and reverse osmosis, use about 75 to 250 psi for water purification. Benefits of the former include lower chemical use, a reduced carbon footprint, and increased pathogen reduction. One major advantage of the latter is its ability to remove approximately 99% of dissolved solids from the source.
