Up to 80% of all Americans deal with back pain at some point in their lives. Only your chiropractor can administer lasting treatment, but for temporary relief, there are a few simple, at-home remedies you can add to your routine. Here are three low-impact yoga poses to help alleviate the discomfort of lower back pain

What Yoga Poses Can Relieve Lower Back Pain?

1. Supported Bridge Pose

This pose requires yoga blocks, bolsters, or a similar support structure. Lay flat on your back, then plant the feet and use them to raise the hips, keeping your head, neck, and shoulders on the mat. Put one yoga block under the sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of your spine) and another under the lumbar spine until you can rest your body weight on the block. You want to feel a nice stretch in the lower back.

2. Reclining Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose

Lay flat on your back and lift one leg straight in the air. Then, keeping a flat back, reach for the big toe of the extended leg. If you can’t touch your toes, you can bend your knee as necessary, or use a belt or strap around the ball of the foot, holding both ends of the strap taut for better support.

3. Supported Child's Pose

Child's pose is a restful and rejuvenating pose. A supported version will prevent you from overdoing the stretch, offering gentle support for your spine. Begin on your hands and knees. Spread your knees wide apart, while keeping your toes touching. Rest your buttocks on your heels and keep your arms stretched overhead, with your chest and head resting between or on top of your thighs. Your forehead should rest on the mat. Put a rolled-up towel or blanket under the buttocks, serving as a support for the hips, knees, and ankles.
