Planning a funeral is an extensive undertaking, especially when you have religious guidelines to follow. If your loved one was Catholic, there are a number of traditions and rules to keep in mind so you can ensure your loved one’s wishes are carried out respectfully. Here’s an overview so you know what to expect when working with a funeral home

Visitation or Wake Service

Usually held the night before the funeral, a visitation gives friends and family members the opportunity to gather together and pray while sharing memories, pictures, and other memorabilia to honor the deceased. An abbreviated visitation, in the morning, can be conducted prior to traveling to church for the Mass.

Funeral Mass & Service

Committal at the Cemetery

After Mass, the casket or urn will be taken to the final resting place at the cemetery. The priest will read a verse from the scripture and say the final prayers. The committal ends with a blessing.
