Visitation or Wake Service

Usually held the night before the funeral, a visitation gives friends and family members the opportunity to gather together and pray while sharing memories, pictures, and other memorabilia to honor the deceased. An abbreviated visitation, in the morning, can be conducted prior to traveling to church for the Mass. 

Funeral Mass & Service

Traditionally, the next day a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The casket is sprinkled with holy water upon entering the church and other symbols of the Catholic faith may be placed upon it, such as a Baptismal Pall, the Holy Bible or a Crucifix. 

Committal at the Cemetery

After Mass, the casket or urn will be taken to the final resting place at the cemetery. The priest will read a verse from the scripture and say the final prayers. The committal ends with a blessing.
