For years, the Charlotte AutoFair Produced by Hornets Nest Region, AACA has been attracting antique car fans, collector car enthusiasts, and auto show aficionados from around the world. Each spring and fall, this four-day extravaganza showcases thousands of vehicles you just can’t find anywhere else, and brings them together with the people who love them the most.

However, what do you do when you love your pet and your car—and your pet loves to ride along with you? You let your furry friend ride, of course, but your also go to great lengths to protect your vehicle. How?

Bringing a kennel along for longer road trips (if it’s an option) is a good idea. You might also try training your pet to stay in one place in the car; if they’ll listen, you may only have to vacuum up fur from one spot.

Towels can also go a long way towards eliminating messes—especially if your best friend has been enjoying a swim in the creek, or reveling in a roll in the mud (buying a seat cover can be useful for the same reasons). You might also consider heavy duty floor mats, or even tarps, if you really don’t want your interior to be compromised. And never underestimate the value of an air freshener: an active canine is a happy canine, but in the summertime, happy dogs do tend to have that not-so-nicely aromatic edge to them after a day of frolicking.

To sum it up, dogs and cars have been existing in harmony for eons now, and they’ll continue to belong together for eons more—even if you do have a classic or luxury vehicle you’re looking to maintain.
