If you want to remodel your bathroom, one of the most common problems to address is a lack of floor space. Many restrooms range from small to tiny, making them feel uncomfortable and cramped. To make the most of what you have and create the illusion of more area, try these remodeling ideas.

How to Make Your Bathroom Feel Larger

1. Rearrange the Storage

Bathroom cabinets often stick out from the walls, but they don’t have to. Ask your remodeling contractor to recess cupboards and shelves into the walls as much as possible to increase storage and floor space at the same time.

2. Expand the Room

Sometimes the best solution is to move a wall completely, borrowing square footage from the next room over where you may never even miss it. While this may not be possible in your home depending on the layout and whether the wall in question is load-bearing, it’s worth discussing with a contractor.

Remodeling3. Replace the Tub

A bathtub takes up a good chunk of your bathroom’s floor plan, but the truth is, you may not need it at all. Consider replacing it with a simple, vertical shower.

4. Don’t Let Fixtures Stick Out

Towel racks, toilet paper rollers, and other fixtures which stick out from the walls make it harder to navigate and give the illusion that the bathroom is more compact. While updating, remove these items or create recessed niches for them in the wall.

5. Rehang the Door

A bathroom door which swings inward is a space hog. Rehang the door so that it opens outward or switch to a sliding one. This way, you and your guests won’t feel crowded when entering or exiting the room.
