The coldest part of the year is not far off at all, which means strain on your heating system is going to be at its most severe before too long. If your furnace is unable to keep your home warm through another winter, it’s best that you replace it now.  You don’t want it breaking down on you in the middle of the coldest month of the year, do you? Let’s take a look at some of the signs that you need a new furnace.

Bills

Your heating bills are going to rise as you use your furnace more often, of course. However, as the system wears down it accumulates more wear and tear. This causes the efficiency of the furnace to drop, which forces it to operate for longer periods of time.  Longer operating time means higher bills. If your bills are suddenly spiking, and you’re not sure why, it may be because you need a new furnace.

Repairs

All furnaces need repairs, but older furnaces are more likely to have parts fail in large groups. If you need to repair your furnace every few months or so, rather than every few years, it’s a definite sign that you need a new system.

Age

Furnaces are made to last around 15 years. Once they get older than that, they start to develop so many problems that it’s not cost-effective to keep them up and running anymore. You can try if you want, but you’ll be wasting quite a bit of money on repairs and maintenance that you wouldn’t have to if you had replaced it.
