3 Signs You Should Take Your Baby to a Pediatric Chiropractor, Manhattan, New York

If you’re a first-time parent, you may have several questions regarding proper care for your newborn. If your infant is your second or third child, you’re already familiar with normal developmental behaviors. However, all parents should pay close attention to their newborn to ensure they’re advancing as they should. If you notice abnormal and frequent crying patterns during movement, it’s best to make an appointment with a pediatric chiropractor. Make sure to look out for the common signs below before scheduling an appointment.

How to Determine if Your Child Needs a Pediatric Chiropractor

1. Have Trouble Holding Up Their Head

pediatric chiropractorBefore walking, crawling, or even rolling over, your baby’s first milestone will be to support the weight of their head on their own. In the meantime, you’ll have to support their head when laying them down or picking them up. Infants usually begin to lift their heads at 1 month and hold it up when sitting at 4 months. If your baby hasn’t developed strong neck muscles to hold their head up by 6 months, consult a pediatric chiropractor. They can clear subluxations that may be making this motion painful or difficult for your little one.

2. Tilt to One Side When Lying on Their Back

As you get to know your baby, you’ll learn about all their likes and dislikes—from toys to sleeping positions. Your baby’s motions can provide clues to their physical condition. If your infant tilts to one side or the other when lying down on their back, they might be dealing with scoliosis or tightness in the neck muscles.

3. Arch Their Back

Does your baby arch their back when lying down, as if to look behind them? While this could be a natural sign of curiosity during playtime or a simple stretch, it could also indicate that they’re uncomfortable. Possible causes for back arching range from mild irritation and sleepiness to epileptic spasms, but muscle tightness or spinal misalignment could also be the culprit. A visit to a pediatric chiropractor could rule out a few possible explanations.

If you believe your baby exhibits any of the signs above, stop by Pure Balance in Murray Hill to meet with a respected pediatric chiropractor.
