When back pain strikes, it’s best to visit a health care provider for an accurate diagnosis. After all, the only way to treat back pain is to determine what’s causing it so you can address the problem at the source. In the meantime, though, you may be wondering how to relieve the discomfort. Fortunately, some simple stretches are all you need. Here are a few ways to relieve back pain temporarily until you can undergo more comprehensive treatment.

Relieve Your Back Pain With These 3 Easy Stretches

1. Cat-Cow Stretch

Get down on all fours with your knees and hands about shoulder-width apart. Arch your back up while dropping your head down. Pretend you are trying to touch the ceiling with your spine. Hold for 10 seconds. Now, pretend to touch your belly button to the floor, and arch your back down while raising your head. Hold for 10 seconds, and repeat the entire stretch five times.

2. Spinal Twist Stretch

Stop before it gets uncomfortable, and hold for 10 seconds. Then let the knees fall to the other side, and hold for 10 more seconds. Repeat five times on each side.

3. Knees to Chest Stretch

While lying down, grab your legs just below the knee and slowly pull them up toward your chest. Stop before you feel any discomfort, and hold for 20 seconds. Let go of your knees and rest for several seconds. Repeat several times for immediate relief.
