Flange fittings attach to the end of a hydraulic hose and feature a widened lip—or flange—through which you can bolt the hose to another hose or pipe fitting. With the right sized gasket between them, this creates a secure, watertight seal. They come in myriad styles and sizes, making it difficult to find the correct replacement part when a flange fitting wears out. Below are the factors you need to know to identify the right replacement part for your needs.

How to Identify a Flange Fitting

Type

fittingsDetermining the type of flange you need will help narrow down your options and make it easier to find the proper piece. For hydraulic hose purposes, flange fittings usually come in two main types: flat face or raised face. The flat face fitting is smooth, while the raised face flange—the more common type—has a donut-shaped raised ridge around the central hole that permits the use of a wide variety of gaskets.

Size & Dimensions

Measure the outer and inner diameters as accurately as possible using a mechanical or electronic caliper. Be sure to get an accurate measurement of its thickness because a flange fitting's thickness determines the amount of pressure it can withstand.

Bolt Holes

Count the number of bolt holes and measure the bolt hole size and the bolt circle diameter. If the count or measurements are off, the new fitting may not match up correctly with the opposite flange.
