1. Torn ACL

The anterior cruciate ligament or ACL is a primary ligament in the knee that provides stability. When athletes pivot or change directions quickly, this ligament can tear, resulting in knee pain and the need for rehabilitation. Some torn ACLs even require surgery, which is why you shouldn’t disregard early symptoms like swelling or feelings of instability while moving. If you rest, ice your knee, and participate in physical therapy, scar tissue will help heal the ligament. 

2. Shin Splints

Sports InjuryShin splints refer to micro-tears in the muscle and bone tissue of the lower legs that cause acute pain. This injury is common in runners and soccer players, who run for extended periods of time on hard surfaces. The best way to treat this sports injury is by resting and applying ice to your shins. You’ll then need to gradually work your way up to standard running routines. You may need to invest in shoes that provide better arch support as well. 

3. Hamstring Strain

Hamstring muscles are located in the back of the thigh, an area known to be tight. It’s easy to strain hamstrings when running, jumping, or squatting, so you should practice preventative stretching before participating in physical activity. If you’ve pulled a hamstring and pain persists for more than a few weeks, consult an orthopedic specialist to better understand the condition of this muscle and how to prevent further injury.
