Each year, thousands of nature lovers flock to Alaska to vacation and enjoy the beauty of the Last Frontier. Among the numerous attractions you’ll find here is Denali National Park, home to North America’s highest mountain peak and a variety of flora and fauna. As you book your hotel and start to plan your stay in this gorgeous wilderness, learn about a few types of wildlife you may see if you’re lucky.

Wildlife You Could See From Your Denali Hotel

1. Bears

Denali National Park is home to a few different species of bears, including black and brown. While you’re unlikely to see the former, which tend to be shy and stay in the heavily wooded areas of the park, you may spot a large grizzly lumbering along. And if you go in April or May, you might catch a glimpse of a mother and her small cubs, which emerge from the den to forage for food during those months.

2. Moose

hotelThese majestic creatures often grow over six feet tall, but this doesn’t hinder their camouflaging abilities. You’re most likely to see them in the park’s various bodies of water: Moose are excellent swimmers, and their large antlers can be easily spotted. Don’t get too close, though: Adult males can weigh over 1,300 lbs, and they are known for being a little nervous.

3. Gray Wolves

Unfortunately, these fascinating and beautiful animals are also the toughest to spot among Denali’s long list of inhabitants. Also called timber wolves, they roam in packs and hunt large, hoofed mammals and are known for wandering hundreds of miles in search of food. If you have your heart set on seeing one, ask a tour guide at your hotel where you can safely sit near a den so you can get a peek.
