So you’ve overindulged, but now what to do to feel like yourself again?  Sometimes our sensors for feeling full don’t do a great job of letting us know when to stop eating or we become good at ignoring those signals, either way it’s not the end of the world.  The bloat and tight clothes will only last a short while if you follow these steps to get your weight loss back in gear.

  1. Hydrate.  Most likely you’ve taken in a little more sodium than on your normal, healthy eating plan with a binge episode. One of the best things you can do is drink extra water. Flush the excess sodium out of your body.
  2. Let it go! Just like Elsa sings… forgive yourself and move on.  Remember how you felt after overeating and then free yourself from any guilt or negativity.
  3. Break a sweat.  Go for a brisk walk or jog.  This will help balance the extra calories you’ve recently consumed and help to minimize stress.  It’s impossible to exercise off all of our calories, but it does help to get moving!
  4. Don’t immediately jump on the scale.  This can be very defeating to some to see a higher than normal number.  Instead give it 2 days before weighing as you’ve allowed your body to get back to it’s set routine.
  5. Get some good quality sleep.  Research is emerging about how lack of sleep affects our food choices. In fact in a recent study those who got a mere 5 hours versus 9 hours of sleep a night ate more calories during the day from fat and carbohydrates.
