Fall is here and so are our favorite fall foods. Are you tempted by pumpkin everything? Noticing candy everywhere? Or, want to gobble up your favorite hot dish?  Take a deep breath…. You can still indulge and manage your weight. Stress less this season with these keys for weight management.

  1. Practice Awareness.  Be conscious of what you eat.  Allow yourself a special treat from time to time, but watch portion sizes closely.  Try an appetizer-sized helping instead of dishing up a full serving.  If you’ve gotten off track, start again at your next meal, allowing your set routine and goals to guide you.
  2. Manage Stress & Emotions.  Learning how to say “no thanks” doesn’t just apply to food choices.  Limit commitments that ask too much of you and focus on those you truly enjoy instead.  Try hosting a potluck instead of being responsible for a meal yourself.  Remember, getting some exercise can be a great way to control stress. Get some fresh air and take an extra walk.
  3. Plan in Advance.  Preparing for social situations is important for managing your weight.  Look up beforehand what restaurants have to offer or if they list nutrition content. Have an idea for what you will order, prior to arriving.  Enjoy your company and food! Challenge yourself to leave feeling satisfied, not stuffed.
