Nothing is worse than buying a brand new pair of glasses only to discover they give you a painful headache after just a few hours of wear. Or perhaps your glasses feel fine—great, in fact—but in photos, they're totally crooked. Fortunately, there are some in-house tips you can keep in mind to make slight frame alterations for a better fit.

How to Ensure Your Glasses Fit Perfectly

1. Heat the Frames

Heating the frames can allow you to make quick, custom alterations. The heat allows you to mold the frames slightly. If your frames are a little loose, for example, heating the temples and molding them will ensure they fit snugly over your ears.

2. Bend the Hingeglasses

When frames are misaligned, bending the hinge on the offending side gently will straighten them out. You may need to move it up or down, depending on the angle of the crookedness. Heating the bridge can make this process a little easier and ensure a straighter alignment.

3. Adjust the Joints

If your glasses are digging into the sides of your head, adjusting the hinge joints so they’re at 120 degrees instead of 90 could be the answer. It may be possible to do this yourself if the glasses have a standard hinge and you have the right tools. Spring hinges are harder to adjust at home, but since they are more flexible, they tend to require fewer adjustments anyway. Hingeless frames call for professional adjustments from either your optician or their manufacturer to increase the angle of the joint.
