Your home isn’t truly clean if you’re living with dust bunnies, which is why most people make vacuuming a priority multiple times a week. Unfortunately, even the best vacuums have a limited lifespan, and it’s helpful to recognize the signs of early system failure. Here are three common vacuum issues and how you can prevent future problems through careful vacuum repair

Symptoms Of Vacuum Problems

1. Immobile Beater Bar

vacuum repairYour vacuum’s beater bar is responsible for brushing your carpet to whisk away dirt and debris. Beater bars are prone to accumulating hair, and small items can become lodged between the bar and the head of the vacuum. Eventually, the bar can become so bogged down with debris that it will stop rotating altogether, making your vacuum less efficient.

If your beater bar has stopped working, unplug your vacuum, turn the system over, and check the bar for coils of hair or stuck debris. By cutting away any hair wrapped around the bar, your vacuum should work normally again. If it doesn’t, turn to a vacuum repair professional to check the bar for damage.

2. Loss of Suction

Vacuums rely on unobstructed air flow to suck up dust and dirt. Unfortunately, if the bags fill up or filters become dirty, air flow can get cut off, and the entire system can lose suction. If your vacuum seems less powerful than before, empty your vacuum bag or canister and check the hoses for clogs.

3. Burning Smell

Depending on how your vacuum was built, your system may rely on a belt to keep the engine running. If your beater bar becomes stuck and your system continues to work hard to move it, that could cause the belt to start burning, making your home smell terrible. Burning smells can also be caused by a damaged power cord, which is a fire hazard. If you notice a burning smell, take your vacuum in for professional vacuum repair to have the components inspected.
