Chronic lower back pain can be a constant nuisance and often comes from minor injuries that can be prevented. Strengthening these muscles is one of the best ways to alleviate and avoid back pain, as well as protect your spine. Building a basic at-home regimen is simple, and below, you’ll find several exercises—though you should consult with your chiropractor first—that only take a moment to do.

3 Exercises to Prevent Back Pain

1. Planks

To strengthen your entire core, do a few planks each day. Begin by lying flat on your stomach, and then, keeping your spine straight, raise your body until you can rest on your forearms or hands in a pushup position. Hold here for as long as possible, using 60 seconds as a benchmark. Doing these will reduce back pain and help your core stabilize your whole body.

2. Leg Lifts

3. Supermans

Lay on your stomach with your arm stretched straight ahead and legs straight back. At the same time, lift your arms and legs skyward and hold for a few seconds. Let them down slowly and repeat. This exercise specifically targets the lower back muscles and will give them a complete workout.
