Advantage Plus™ is a type of treated lumber that can be used for moulding or trim work around your home. Before working with this product, you should let it sit for a few weeks to adjust to the local climate, so you’ll need to store it in a safe and secure place in the meantime. Here are some do’s and don’ts to keep in mind as you prepare your Advantage Plus lumber for storage.

Do:

Make sure there’s enough air circulation.

Since it’s a treated lumber, store Advantage Plus in a place with adequate air circulation. This allows fumes from the finish to escape and lets the lumber adjust to the humidity and temperature before installation.

Keep it dry.

As with any wood, exposure to water can lead to warping. If possible, store Advantage Plus in a garage or shed with proper ventilation. If one is not available, wrap the wood loosely in a waterproof cover, allowing for air to circulate inside. Just make sure not to wrap it too tightly or it won’t be able to adjust to the climate, which could lead to warping after it’s installed. 

Don’t:

Leave it in the sun.

Direct sunlight can dry out the wood too quickly, which is another reason why it’s best to store it in a shed or under a roof. If you do wrap it and leave it outside, make sure the wrapping is not dark in color to avoid more sunlight absorption.

Store it on the ground.

Dirt and debris can lead to discoloration or moisture absorption. Even if the floor of your garage or shed looks relatively clean, prop the wood up on something else or wrap it loosely in a cover before placing it on the ground.
