Veneers are one of the most versatile and beneficial treatments in cosmetic dentistry, creating a durable porcelain covering for your tooth. However, just like your dental enamel, they can be vulnerable to damage. To keep your beautiful new veneers looking pristine, there are a few foods you should avoid.

Early On

After your teeth have been altered to fit your veneers but before your final set has been applied, your dentist may have you wear a temporary set to protect your teeth. Because they are temporary, they are not strongly affixed to your teeth and are easy to break off. Until your permanent veneers are in place, you should eat only soft foods and avoid anything tough like beef, sticky like taffy and caramel, or hard like chips, hard bread crust, and ice.

After Completion

VeneersOnce your permanent veneers are in place, you’ll be able to go back to your old eating habits for the most part. However, you should still avoid any very hard foods. Don’t chew on ice or hard candy or try to crack nuts with your teeth. Also, avoid using your teeth to open packages or cut thread, since doing so can damage the porcelain of your veneers in the same way damage can occur to dental enamel. In addition, you should limit your intake of staining food and drinks, such as curry, tomato sauce, wine, coffee, tea, and cola.
