Wear and tear make replacing your tires inevitable. Fortunately, knowing when it’s time to take your vehicle to an auto service center for new tires will help keep you safe on the road and prevent accidents. Here are a few warning signs you can look out for to determine when your tires are compromised.

How to Tell Your Tires Are in Bad Shape

1. Tread Wear

Your car will grip the road better when the tread is in optimal condition. When the tread is worn, your vehicle may be unable to react effectively to hazardous conditions. Surfaces that are slick due to recent rainfall or ice and snow, for example, will leave your car more prone to spinning out of control. Blowouts are also more likely to occur when the tire tread is low. Test your tread depth by placing a penny upside down into one of the grooves. If you can still see Lincoln’s head, get the tire replaced at an auto service center.

2. Age

Auto Service CenterVehicle manufacturers typically recommend that tires be replaced after six years, while tire manufacturers recommend changing them after a decade. Have your tires inspected at a local auto service center once after five years and then once a year after that, as tire tread can often wear down long before the recommended replacement age.

3. Vibration

It’s normal to feel a small amount of vibration when you’re driving on rough roads. However, if you frequently notice the vehicle shake, especially when you’re going over 40 mph or faster, it could indicate trouble inside the tires or misaligned wheels.
