Flowers are a beautiful way to brighten up a home and add visual interest to any space. However, without the right care, they can be very short-lived. To increase the lifespan of your floral arrangements, here are three tips.

Extend the Life of Your Flowers With These 3 Tips

1. Snip the Stems

When you receive a flower arrangement, you’ll first want to snip the stems at an angle. This allows them to soak up more water, as opposed to sitting flush at the bottom of the vase. To cut, simply use garden shears and snip an inch or two off at the bottom every few days or so.

2. Provide Fresh Water

Mix the contents of the packet into the water thoroughly before placing the stems inside and ensure it’s not too cloudy. You’ll want to change the water and clean the vase every two to three days to extend the life of your bouquet.

3. Avoid Exposure to Harsh Environments

Typically, flowers won’t do well in extreme environments such as those with intense light, extreme heat, or near cooling vents. Instead, keep them in a room with a cool, even temperature and avoid placing them directly in the sunlight to prevent dehydration. Keep them away from fruit bowls as well to avoid exposure to ethylene gas emissions as fruits ripen.
