6 Restylane FAQ

What Is Restylane?

Restylane is a brand of hyaluronic acid dermal filler. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that naturally occurs in the body that provides hydration and fullness to the skin. The brand family includes several forms that are used for specific treatments, such as lip filling or cheek contouring.

How Is It Used?

restylaneRestylane is a smooth gel that is administered to the selected area of the face via fine needles. It can mitigate wrinkles around the mouth, add fullness and shape to the lips, and reduce fine lines. Restylane can be used to fill and contour cheeks, smooth the neck and decolletage, and improve the appearance of your hands.

How Long Does Treatment Last?

Restylane treatments last six to nine months on average. However, some women may see results for up to 18 months; this depends on the treatment area and Restylane product used.

How Many Treatments Should I Get?

Each treatment session lasts about an hour, and initial treatment regimens include two to three sessions. More may be necessary depending on your specific needs. You will decide on maintenance treatment with your doctor. Restylane begins to work immediately; it naturally breaks down and is released by the body over time.

Who Should Not Use Restylane?

Restylane is approved for use of those 21 years and over. Those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a known allergy to lidocaine are not ideal candidates for the treatment. If you take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder, you may not be able to utilize Restylane. Talk to a specialist to determine if the treatment is for you.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Restylane treatments are safe and present few side effects. You may have some soreness, swelling, itching, or bruising for a few days after treatment, but most clients report little discomfort. Most effects will fade in 72 hours or a week.
