When you’re trying to decide what flooring is best for your commercial or industrial space, it can seem overwhelming figuring out which is most appropriate. But if you take the time to assess the top contenders—concrete, vinyl, and epoxy flooring—you’ll be sure to arrive at the right decision. Here is a rundown of these three types of flooring.

A Guide to Concrete, Vinyl, & Epoxy Flooring

1. Vinyl

A popular choice for residential flooring, vinyl is also a good candidate for commercial surfaces that aren’t industrial, as grit can wear its top layer down over time. The plastic resists water well, and doesn’t require much upkeep. It can handle the heavy foot traffic seen in many commercial spaces and comes in a wide range of colors and styles. Because of this, it’s simple to match it to your aesthetic.

2. Concrete

The biggest draw of concrete is its incredible longevity. Not only will it hold up for decades, but it’s strong enough that it can easily handle vehicle traffic or the repeated weight of individuals walking by. It can be dyed any color, but there are fewer options as far as patterns go. What it does offer is a minimal and professional aesthetic that feels safe and sturdy. Since water can be an issue for concrete, it’s important to have it sealed or coat it with the epoxy if you’re planning on using it in a factory setting.

3. Epoxy

epoxy flooringWhen you’re looking for a high glossy shine or a surface that can withstand nearly anything, it’s best to opt for epoxy flooring. The epoxy creates a hard layer over a surface like concrete, making it completely resistant to spills—even heavy duty chemicals like bleach. It’s great for an industrial setting because you can easily hose down the floor and never have to worry about the water causing a problem. What you would need to worry about is if heavy items are constantly falling to the floor, as this can create breakages. Epoxy can also be slippery, so it’s smart to invest in grip additives.
