Even if you work out consistently and vary your exercise routine, many still experience limited mobility and stability, which prevents them from enjoying a full-body workout. With a consistent strength training program, you can build up the muscles that support your joints, improving overall performance. Take a look at how mobility and stability affect the body and how to combat these issues.

Mobility

Mobility refers to the ability to move a joint through its full range of motion. A lack of mobility prevents you from achieving peak capabilities while pressing, squatting, and completing other forms of physical exercise. strength training

For example, if you are unable to get yourself fully into a squat because of limitations around the hips, you have limited mobility. It’s important you don’t overextend yourself in these circumstances, as that can often jeopardize your safety and you might strain a muscle.

Stability

Stability refers to your ability to resist joint movement from an outside force. Increased joint stability prevents you from overextending your muscles and joints and putting your body into compromising positions. A lack of joint stability leads to an inability to maintain proper tension, which can also lead to increased risk of injury. Injury typically occurs when the muscles surrounding the joints cannot adequately take the strain off the tendons and ligaments.

For example, if you are performing gymnastics and cannot support yourself on the rings and begin to shake, this is a sign of joint instability.

How Strength Training Improves Mobility & Stability

Limited mobility and stability can be addressed with a consistent strength training routine. For mobility improvement, strength training consists of repetitive weight-bearing exercises that increase the range of motion for ligaments and tendons over time. Stability is also increased as greater muscle mass significantly improves the body’s ability to support weight and resist motion.
