Whether you’re in the hospitality industry or sports medicine, ice machines are essential. They supply several different forms of ice in a matter of minutes and make it easier for companies to serve their clients. However, it can be difficult to choose between an air-cooled machine and one that’s water-cooled if you don’t know which will serve your particular needs.

What’s the Difference Between Air-Cooled & Water-Cooled Ice Machines?

Air-cooled ice machines rely on a set of fans and vents that are positioned within the cabinet. This system constantly circulates air and refrigerant around the condenser coils. The heat transfers from the coils to the air, and then the heated air is transported out of a vent in the back of the cabinet.

Water-cooled ice machines have water coils positioned near their condenser coils that keep the ice cool by transferring heat through a waterline. A narrow tube circulates water through the coils until the coils are cooled. Then, the heated water exits the machine through a drain at the base of the cabinet.

Which Is the Better Option for Businesses?

The water-cooled ice machines, on the other hand, don’t need a lot of electricity to operate. However, these systems use more water to transfer heat away from the ice chamber, which could raise your water bill slightly.
