As the season comes to an end, you’ve probably been thinking about what you are going to do with your summer sports equipment. One good way to keep it from cluttering up other areas of your home is to rent a storage unit. If you decide to do so, below are some good tips for keeping all of your items organized and in good condition until you need them again next year.

How to Place Sports Equipment in a Storage Unit

1. Embrace Cubbies

If you have a free wall in the storage unit, add a large set of cubbies to this space. This will allow you to keep items out of bins that might get more use or are more delicate. If you have an old bookshelf lying around, this would be a great way to repurpose it.

2. Utilize the Walls & Ceilingstorage unit

If you have bikes and other large pieces of equipment that will take up a lot of floor space on their own, use the wall and ceiling space. Installing bike racks, hooks, bungee cords, peg boards, and baskets in these areas will allow you to get bulkier pieces off the floor and make it easier to find these items when they are needed next.

3. Create Individual Bins

Ideally, you should store all of your equipment in plastic bins. They are sturdier than cardboard, more resistant to moisture, and easier to stack. Give each member in your household their own bin, preferably in a unique color, and label it, so you can easily find each person’s gear in the future. However, use separate containers for gear and uniforms to avoid damaging anything.
