New to Fantasy Football? Here’s What You Need to Know, Danbury, Connecticut

Looking to get started with fantasy football this season but unsure where to begin? This helpful guide will walk you through team building strategies for creating your own successful fantasy football league and watching it play out at your favorite sports bar.

A Beginner’s Guide to Fantasy Football

What Is It?

Fantasy football is a fun, competitive hobby where you can build your ultimate dream team of players. You’ll start by assembling, or “drafting,” players to create your ideal team. As time goes on, you can then can incorporate some trading strategies and start acquiring free agents, or players available to any league team willing to drop an owned player.

How to Start Your Draft

sports barThe players you select for your draft will determine the team’s success. When assembling your draft, you want to focus on minimizing risk and maximizing gain. Generally speaking, you want to stick to the draft plan, but you also want to be open to better opportunities should they come along. Draft your running backs early and take at least two in the first three rounds. Avoid selecting a kicker or defense too early; instead, save it for the end of the draft for the best pick. It’s typically best to take quarterbacks in the middle rounds when they’re easiest to find.

When & How to Trade Players

Trading is a crucial part of building your league. As you get into the season, start to evaluate how your team is doing and assess where it can improve. To upgrade weaknesses, trade players by determining who you’re willing to give up to get the new player. Some trading strategies to focus on are buying low but selling high, making two-for-one offers, trading from a place of strength, and making strictly unbiased decisions.
