Ceramic tile floors endure a lot of foot traffic and daily wear. No matter how tough they are, damage is a possibility. Thankfully, whether they’re from furniture or sharp heels, surface-level scratches can be repaired. The following method will effectively eliminate scratches from your ceramic tiles.

How to Get Rid of Scratches on Ceramic Tile

1. Prepare Affected Tiles

Before you fix anything, you need to make sure the scuff is free of debris. Otherwise, you risk your tile floors looking dingy even after the repair. Using a solution of warm water and dishwashing liquid, gently clean the entire length of the scratch with a sponge. Once all the grime is gone, rinse the area with water and wipe it dry with a clean cloth.

2. Rub in Scouring Paste

Scouring powder paste is an effective tool for deep cleaning hard tile surfaces. Get a fresh cloth, dip it into the paste, and scrub along the scratch in circular motions. Let it sit for about five minutes, then wipe it off with a soft cloth, brush, or pad.

3. Use Brass Polisher

4. Apply Car Wax

Car wax doesn’t just work on vehicles. Applying it to tile floors seals the area over scratches, makes them easier to clean, and gives them a nice shine. Use a soft cloth to carefully dab the car wax over the scratch. Be sure to buff it out to keep it from getting too slippery.

5. Repeat as Needed

At this point, your treated scratches should be gone. If they’ve faded but are still visible, repeat the scouring or brass polishing steps as necessary. For stubborn scratches that won’t lift, you may want to consider replacing the damaged tile completely. The scratch could be going deeper than the surface glaze.
