Whether you’re fixing dated, broken windows or making an upgrade, you should take the proper steps to get the area ready for the installers. Putting in window replacements requires plenty of space, and you don’t want obstructions to cause issues with the installation or damage the materials. There are several steps to ensure your home is ready, and you can begin the with the ones below.

3 Steps to Get Your Home Ready for Window Replacements

1. Move Furniture

If you have furniture in front of or beneath the window being replaced, move it away from the area. Put it in another room to create as much space as possible. Also, move anything that obstructs a clear path from your front door to the area where the window replacements are going. Make sure there’s plenty of space based on the size of the new windows. The installers should be able to set the new ones out when they arrive, have space to set the old windows aside, and comfortably move around and access tools. If you’re uncertain, call ahead of time to ask their preference.

2. Take Down Blinds

They’ll only create more work for the installer and can also be a hazard if left up during the installation. Blinds can be damaged easily, so make sure all are drawn before you unmount them from the wall. To ensure they aren’t stepped on, store them on a level surface with furniture and other items you’ve moved to a designated area away from the workspace.

3. Disarm Your Security System

If you have sensors on your windows, disarm them during the installation. They’ll also need to be removed and reinstalled, so speak with your security provider to see what steps need to be taken. They’ll help you prevent false alarms and get the replacement windows armed as soon as possible once the installation is complete.
