Guide to Concealed Carrying in Illinois

Where It Is Prohibited to Carry a Gun

gunsIf you have your CCW permit in Illinois, there are some places it isn’t allowed by law. This includes public and private schools, preschools and child-care facilities, all government buildings, courts, hospitals, nursing care facilities, jails, public transportation, public gatherings that require a special permit, public parks, stadiums, zoos, airports, public libraries, places that primarily sell alcohol, and gaming facilities licensed under the Riverboat Gambling Act or the Illinois Horse Racing Act of 1975.

How to Know

Signs should be posted in highly visible locations at places and events where it is prohibited to carry any weapon, including a concealed weapon. There are some exceptions to prohibitions, too. For example, while guns are not allowed in public parks, the Department of Natural Resources does allow those with CCW licenses to carry them in designated public hunting areas. If you are uncertain, call your local police department and clarify your rights before carrying a concealed weapon.
