3 Tips to Choose the Best Putter, Manhattan, New York

Without a strong short game, you’ll have trouble taking your golf skills to the next level. As simple as putting the ball in the hole may seem, several factors influence it, including your putter. It’s crucial to know what to look for when selecting one to add to your golf clubs so it fits your stance and, ultimately, gives you confidence based on the feel.

3 Tips for Selecting a Putter

1. Start With Shaft Length

Posture plays a significant role in how you putt, so before you begin looking at heads, find one that fits your stance. Standard lengths are 34” ad 35.” If you’re too bent over or not bent over enough, you’ll lose distance and directional control. Speak with a golf store professional if you need assistance.

2. Blade vs. Mallet

golf-clubsGolf clubs have all sorts of heads, and blade and mallet heads are the two putter types. Mallet putters give you a more balanced feel and include a sight-line. Blade heads have more control but putt in more of an arch motion. Weight is also a factor, so do some practice swings with several types of golf clubs to see which matches your current technique.

3. Face vs. Toe

Two other factors of golf clubs that play into technique are face-balanced and toe-balanced designs. Face-balanced putter heads have a square head that points directly up when laying on the ground. Toe-balanced will be perpendicular but slightly facing the ground. A face-balanced head will give you a basic back-and-through stroke motion; a toe-balanced allows you to adjust positioning if you have an arch-style stroke.
