You likely stick to your vet’s recommended vaccination schedule for your cat to ensure they stay happy and healthy. Getting your cat vaccinated is even more critical before pet boarding, as it can help your four-legged friend fight off illness passed on by other animals. While you should always talk with your vet before deciding on which vaccines your pet needs, the following is a list of immunizations that are commonly deployed for cats that are being boarded for the first time.

3 Vaccines Your Cat Needs Before Boarding

1. Feline Panleukopenia Virus

Feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) is a highly contagious viral disease. When contracted, it can infiltrate your cat’s immune system and kill off white blood cells in the body, which can lower the ability to fight infection. When contracted, FPV can be life-threatening because it compromises the immune system, but it can be prevented with the FPV vaccine.

2. Feline Herpesvirus 1

Although all cats should be immunized for this infection, it is especially important to vaccinate kittens and pregnant or lower-immunity cats, as they are more susceptible to contracting this illness.

3. Feline Calicivirus

Feline calicivirus (FCV) is another respiratory disease in cats that attacks the respiratory tract, mouth, intestines, and musculoskeletal system. This disease is highly transferable in unvaccinated cats and kittens older than six weeks. Symptoms of FCV include loss of appetite, eye and nose discharge, and ulcers on the tongue or claws.
