One of the reasons we all love the autumn season is the beautiful colors we see everywhere! The leaves vary from brown, red, orange, green and yellow! The range of colors can be stunning, but it’s not so stunning when our teeth change color.  If your teeth aren’t as white as they used to be, don’t worry, this is quite common. Even if you have the best of brushing and flossing habits it won’t stop the effects of foods like red wine, coffee, tea, berries, tomatos, and beets. All these things, over time will stain your teeth and leave them a bit discolored. The good news is that Dr. Lunan has many options to get your smile brighter again.

In-office bleaching is one of the services provided at Dr. Lunan’s dental office. It is a fast and safe method of teeth whitening. Her experienced staff will apply a bleaching agent to your teeth and use a special light to speed up the whitening process. Depending on how much lighter you would like your teeth to be the process may be done in one or several sessions.

At-home bleaching can also be done. A mold is made of your teeth by taking an impression and custom trays are made just for you. These trays go home with you and you apply the bleaching gel right into them. The trays are worn for an hour per day for a few weeks depending on how dark your teeth have gotten over time.

There are also over the counter whitening products available. These include whitening strips or gels that you apply directly to your teeth. They are similar to the at-home bleaching method but can be a bit on the messy side. They are also not as strong as what you get at Dr. Lunan’s office so the process will take longer to complete.

Try a whitening toothpaste if you just want to remove minimal stains. These won’t actually whiten your teeth however.

Whichever option works for you, be sure to discuss it with Dr. Lunan first.  She can help advise you which would be the best treatment for you based on your dental history and personal needs.
